A number of people have asked me to create a "how-to" for uploading
waypoint data into a GPS from a Pocket PC. While I certainly can't address
every single combination of GPS and PPC on the market I can detail my own
setup and make myself available to answer questions.
My Hardware
- Garmin eTrex Yellow GPSr
- iPaq 3835 PPC running PPC 2002 OS
- Garmin/iPaq Data/Charging Cable from
www.thesupplynet.com
My Software
- G7toCE for PPC
- Standard Garmin OS and Communication Software on the eTrex
The Process
- Ensure the GPS communication protocol is set to Garmin
- Ensure MS ActiveSync is not running on the PPC
- Connect the PPC and GPSr via the data/charging cable
- Power up the GPSr
- Start the G7toCE software on the PPC (see Figure 1)
- When the G7toCE software starts the first time (or if you have deleted
your GPX files) the screen is blank as in Figure 1; tap File>Open to open
the Open File dialog (see Figure 2)
- Select your desired GPX file and tap OK (see Figure 3)
- If your GPX file contains multiple waypoints your PPC screen will look
like Figure 4
- Tap Wpt>Upload Wpts to GPS and your waypoint upload process will begin
(see Figure 5)
- Once you receive the confirmation message, you're done - waypoints
uploaded, go cache!
